Somebody I’m friends with on facebook (because we had one English class together senior year) just got engaged. Which is fine.
But someone commented, “FINALLY.”
I’m pretty sure they haven’t even been together for a year.
WHY ARE YOU IN SUCH A FUCKING RUSH. DO YOU EVEN HAVE…
…but if you just know, you know. And there are some instances where it can be a “finally” moment. For instance, my current boyfriend and I have only been together for a year, but if it wasn’t out of consideration for his parents’ feelings, and the fact that there is no way we can afford a wedding (because neither of us want just us and witnesses in front of a justice of the peace) , an engagement might be official by now. So yeah, I expect that when it does become “official” there will be plenty of those “finally!” comments. And no, I cannot legally drink yet. But just because I’m not yet 21 does not mean that I don’t know what kind of a commitment I am entering. I’m the same age my father was when my parents got married, and they have now been married for 23 years. Would you like to tell them that they rushed?
